Using the power outlet ground is not recommended for station grounding. As it is connected to most everything in your home, it is a rich source of radio frequency interference. It is recommended that you use a separate earth ground. The ground connection must be as short as possible to be effective. You will need to still use the power outlet for a safety ground if you are plugged into 120 VAC for station power.
